Program DescriptionWhat a child learns during the first years of life will last a lifetime. If you are dedicated to providing opportunities for children to discover, explore, create, and learn through play, then this is the program for you. The basis of the Early Learning and Child Care Certificate Program is that learning through play is central to the healthy development of young children. At the same time, you will learn the values and culture of a child's local community and how they affect child care.
The program gives a comprehensive introduction to child growth, behaviour and development, as well as how to plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate experiences in a stimulating environment which provides for the health, safety, and nutrition of children. The Early Learning and Child Care Certificate Program will strengthen your understanding and skills, thereby enhancing the quality of service received by children. The program offers you the knowledge, experience, perspective, and skill set for an enjoyable, successful career working with young children.

eInstructor Ashley Duiker was born in the Northwest Territories but lived most of her life in a small village in Northern Saskatchewan. She now lives in Lethbridge Alberta with her husband. It is here, at the University of Lethbridge that she completed her Degree in English. Her career path has always had a focus on working with children and has had a number of years of experience through Daycare, Volunteer work, and Elementary Classrooms. |

Program OverviewCredenda Virtual College is offering the Early Learning and Child Care Certificate Program via the internet with live interactive lessons so you can stay in your community. The certificate program is comprised of 10 courses and 2 practicums, with each course approximately ten weeks long. The classes will take place one evening a week allowing you to retain employment during the day and still work towards your education goals. Program length is about 2 years.
Employment opportunities exist for graduates of the Early Learning and Child Care Certificate Program in areas such as daycare, nursery programs, Head Start and positions within the Education System.
You will need a headset with microphone.
There is a $65 application fee per program and a $50 program access fee per year.

This course is an overview of the significance of play in the development of the child. It includes nature and the development of play in children, organizing meaningful play experiences, designing play oriented activity centers and the development of outdoor play spaces.

This course is an exploration of curriculum planning, implementation an evaluation in the areas of art, games, movement and music. These curriculum arrears are explored within the framework of a play orientated, interactions approach. This approach enables you to design and implement interactive activities for children and youth. You are provided the opportunity to acquire strategies for supporting the development of children and youth within the preschool, school community setting.
